Camargue – winter tour (6h)

Winter is the ideal season to stroll along the paths of the ornithological park of Pont de Gau, 4 km from Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, to discover migrating winter birds and observe the nuptial parade of more than 1,800 pink flamingos.
The Camargue is a French natural region located on the Mediterranean Sea, in the departments of Bouches-du-Rhône and Gard, and formed by the Rhone delta. The city of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer is the capital of the Camargue.

This 6-hours tour in the Camargue is offered only in winter from December to March.

Drive-time to Camargue is about 1h45, stop along the ponds, to the Pont de Gau, the ornithological park of Camargue.

During the winter season one has the chance to observe the pink flamingos, adorned with their most beautiful colors. From December to April, the males engage in their magnificent courtship in search of a mate.

In the Camargue, they offer an unforgettable spectacle.

You have two choies of meal:

  • For this excursion, which is quite short, I suggest you take a snack
  • a table in a restaurant between 20 and 30€ per person, plus the guide-driver’s meal (at 20€).

Equipment required

Good shoes, binoculars and a camera!

Take suitable clothing (sun hat, windbreaker, sunglasses) and mosquito repellent and other insects and sun protection!

I don’t have seat belts in the back of my cars (vintage cars) so if you need a seat belt attachment or other hardware, it will be difficult. Let me know what you need.
